Be brilliant, play cunning, and master craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A good many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
