Be brilliant, play cunning, and become versed in craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated south and located sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
