Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French relocated down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps.
