Be smart, play brilliant, and pickup craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French headed down south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the country. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
