Be cunning, play cunning, and pickup craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he developed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
