Be brilliant, play clever, and master craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French relocated down south and found safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A few acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he created the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
