Be brilliant, play clever, and pickup craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and discovered safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
