Be smart, play clever, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French headed down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
